At Edgar Park, we are always looking for mares with the right blend of race performance, toughness, pedigree and broodmare potential. Scratchy Lass is a mare who represents all of those qualities.

A daughter of U S Ranger out of the Keltrice mare Seven Year Itch, Scratchy Lass was a genuine racehorse. Across a 53-start career, she recorded 10 wins, 4 seconds and 5 thirds, earning more than $360,000 in prizemoney. Her highlight came with Listed success in the 2016 Oakbank Stakes, proving herself as a tough, talented and durable mare across multiple preparations.

For Edgar Park, Scratchy Lass has become more than just a proven race mare. She is now establishing herself as a producer.

Her Shamus Award filly, Karren, is a horse we know very well and one we have taken great pride in breeding and racing. Karren announced herself with a strong debut win at Sandown, adding an important early update to the family and giving Scratchy Lass her first real marker as a broodmare capable of producing quality.

That momentum continued at the 2026 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, where Scratchy Lass’ Street Boss filly was offered as Lot 314 through the Crossley Thoroughbreds draft. The filly sold for $220,000 to Lloyd Kennewell Racing and Group One Bloodstock, a terrific result and a strong reflection of the growing confidence in the mare’s progeny.

Scratchy Lass is exactly the type of mare we want to build around at Edgar Park. She was tough, genuine and talented on the track, and she is now beginning to pass those qualities on through her foals. As breeders, those are the families you want to be involved in early, before the page fully catches up with what you can see in the paddock.

We look forward to watching Karren continue her racing career, following the progress of the Street Boss filly, and seeing what Scratchy Lass can continue to produce in the years ahead. For Edgar Park, she is a mare with substance, performance and a family that feels like it is only just beginning to emerge.
